Graphic Designer

We are seeking both an Intermediate and Junior level Graphic Designer to join our Creative Services and Marketing team.

The Creative Services team has a role to play in most aspects of the visual representation of the Smith & Caughey's brand and however that may be represented.Graphic Designers at Smith & Caughey's operate under the Creative Services Department, this department works closely, cohesively and collaboratively with our in-house Visual Merchandising and Online departments.Designers will be expected to provide digital and print design expertise on behalf of the store for a variety of marketing and communication materials, and be able to meet our key branding look, feel, tone, and benchmark standard.

The role of a Graphic Designer at Smith & Caughey's reflects our retail environment, elements created are to drive business to our online store, foot traffic to our physical locations and build a sense of community with our customers. Enhancing the Smith & Caughey's brand in the present retail landscape while maintaining the historical values of our business, communicating our rich store history of over 140 years, and supporting our brand partners is an always-on responsibility.Designers will work with assets received from brand partners and must be able to meet their strict guidelines.

A key and regular responsibility of both roles is to produce email communication design and supporting digital assets within the look and tone of voice of Smith & Caughey's.

Applicants for the Intermediate role should have four to five years of proven design experience, and applicants for the Junior role should have two to three years of proven experience.

Applicants should have the following:

An excellent understanding of and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite. Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign is essential.
Experience or skills related to video editing, photography and animation is a plus.
Excellent time management and organisational skills, an eye for detail and be able to work well under pressure and to deadlines.
Should be able to understand, maintain and implement visual strategy and direction.
A pro-active and dynamic and collaborative approach.
Applicants should have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Both roles are full time, based at our Queen Street store.

Smith & Caughey's a New Zealand owned department store has an exciting opportunity for a creative and motivated Head Chef to run our Cafe kitchen.

This role includes a high level of responsibility, and we are looking for someone with proven experience and talent. You will be flexible and a team player who can work collaboratively with our Cafe; Manager, and Cafe; staff. You will have a positive mindset and continually strive to improve the kitchen aspects of our Cafe.

You will be motivated and experience in the following:

Creating fresh and nutritious food
Experience in pastry and baking
Preparing and presenting modern and healthy cabinet food for a wide demographic of customers
Running an inspiring a la carte menu, and be involved in creating menus
Stock rotation, inventory management, and ordering
Managing kitchen staff
A clear understanding of safe food handling and hygiene
A clear understanding of allergy and dietary requirements, and health trends
A level head under pressure
You will be passionate about getting involved in every aspect of the kitchen.

Our Newmarket store is seeking a motivated, unique individual to represent Smith & Caughey’s new Home department as a Team Leader.

This role is suited to someone with a strong passion for unique décor and a love of homewares. Brands include a curated collection of Jonathan Adler, Seletti, Pols Potten, Qeeboo, Versace Home, Missoni Home to name a few.

Retail management/ senior retail positions experience is preferred to excel in this opening, however training will be provided.

You will be responsible for maximizing sales, coaching and developing your staff and managing 'Homes' beautiful products. You will be punctual, a team player and be flexible over the busy periods.

Smith & Caughey’s are seeking are strong, reliable person to join our small but busy Inventory team on a full time basis. You will be well versed with assisting with stocktakes, have good computer skills and be literate with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.


Duties for this role include:
•               Picking, packing and dispatch of goods 
•               Receiving and storing goods
•               Stock Takes
•               Maintaining the store in a clean, tidy and safe manner
•               General warehouse duties
•               Manual Labour

Junior Loss Prevention Officer

Smith & Caughey's department store are looking for a full-time Junior Loss Prevention/Security Officer to work in our Queen Street store. The role is approximately 40-44 hours per week, based on a rotating roster which includes weekend work.

The main focus of our team is to prevent stock loss throughout Smith & Caughey's retail store by being present and accessible on the shop floor, helping to coach and mentor staff on loss prevention techniques and assisting with the bag check system. With training, other responsibilities include opening\closing our stores, being a first aider, gaining your liquor license and assisting with interviewing\investigating potential theft.

Our ideal candidate will be computer literate, possess excellent customer service skills and be physically able. You will have exceptional attention to detail, a willingness to learn and experience in either the retail environment, or with crowd control.
