Tradition and innovation - the RIEDEL company can proudly look back on its 250-year success story. From its beginnings in northern Bohemia down to this day, for 11 generations (as at 2013) RIEDEL has stood for the high art of glassmaking. In 1673, when Johann Christoph Riedel was born in the Bohemian town of Neuschlo├č, no one could have guessed that this was also the birth of one of the greatest glass enterprises in the world. This Bohemian glass merchant was the starting point for a global glassware success with significant influence.

The Riedel glassworks was most notably characterised by a brand new direction - unadorned, delicate, fine wine glasses. In the 1961 catalogue, RIEDEL displayed for the first time the vision of glasses specially made to enhance specific styles of wine, distinguishing the Riedel company more than ever before, as to date fashion in stemware had been dictated purely by aesthetics, not function. The handmade Sommeliers series was launched in 1973, introducing the revolutionary new concept to the wine trade and changing the world of wineglasses forever. The major factor evident in glassware at the time was that virtually every glass people drank wine from was too small to do justice to the wine. The Sommeliers Series was showered with prizes from around the world. Further development and mechanizing the production of fine wine glasses brought with it the Vinum series, making Riedel glasses far more affordable to wine lovers the world over.

Today RIEDEL presides over a large range of stemmed, stemless and decanting glassware preferred by the casual wine lover and the gourmand sommelier alike.
